Vermicelli Upma Recipe: A South Indian Breakfast Classic Quick And Easy Way

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup vermicelli
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1/2 teaspoon channa dal
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, and channa dal. Fry until the spices start to crackle.
  2. Add the green chili and onion. Saute until the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the turmeric powder and salt. Stir to combine.
  4. Add the vermicelli and water. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the vermicelli is cooked through.
  6. Stir in the cilantro and serve hot.

Tips:

  • For a more flavorful upma, you can add other vegetables, such as carrots, peas, or potatoes.
  • If you don’t have any water, you can use milk instead.
  • You can also add a pinch of sugar to the upma if you like.
