Ingredients:
- 1 cup vermicelli
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon urad dal
- 1/2 teaspoon channa dal
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, and channa dal. Fry until the spices start to crackle.
- Add the green chili and onion. Saute until the onion is translucent.
- Add the turmeric powder and salt. Stir to combine.
- Add the vermicelli and water. Stir to combine.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the vermicelli is cooked through.
- Stir in the cilantro and serve hot.
Tips:
- For a more flavorful upma, you can add other vegetables, such as carrots, peas, or potatoes.
- If you don’t have any water, you can use milk instead.
- You can also add a pinch of sugar to the upma if you like.
