Paneer paratha is a popular North Indian stuffed flatbread made with a whole wheat flour dough and filled with savory, spiced, grated paneer (Indian cottage cheese) stuffing. It is a delicious and filling breakfast or snack, and can also be served as a main course.
Here is a recipe for paneer paratha:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup oil or ghee
- 1 cup grated paneer
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil or ghee for cooking
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
- Add the oil or ghee and rub it into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add enough water to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- While the dough is resting, prepare the stuffing.
- In a bowl, combine the paneer, green chili, red chili powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt.
- Mix well until all the ingredients are combined.
- After the dough has rested, divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- Roll out each piece of dough into a thin circle.
- Place a tablespoon of the stuffing in the center of each circle.
- Fold the dough over the stuffing to form a semicircle.
- Seal the edges of the dough by pressing them together with your fingers.
- Roll out the paratha again into a thin circle.
- Heat a griddle or tawa over medium heat.
- Cook the paratha for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Repeat steps 15-16 with the remaining parathas.
- Serve hot with your favorite chutney or curry.
Tips:
- If the dough is too dry, add a little more water.
- If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
- If the paratha is tearing while you are rolling it out, wet your hands with water.
- To prevent the paratha from sticking to the griddle, brush it with a little oil or ghee before cooking.
Enjoy!
