NASA and SpaceX are planning to launch the seventh crew mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in August 2023. The mission, called Crew-7, will be launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The Crew-7 crew will consist of:
- NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, spacecraft commander
- ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, pilot
- JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, mission specialist
- Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov, mission specialist
The Crew-7 astronauts will spend about six months on the ISS, conducting scientific experiments and maintenance work. They will also welcome the arrival of the Crew-8 astronauts, who are scheduled to launch in October 2023.
The launch of Crew-7 is the latest in a series of successful crewed missions to the ISS by NASA and SpaceX. The two organizations have now launched a total of 13 crewed missions to the ISS, with no major accidents or incidents.
The Crew-7 mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, which is designed to ensure that the United States has a reliable and cost-effective means of transporting astronauts to and from the ISS. The program has been a major success, and it has helped to make the ISS a truly international research laboratory.
