Cyclone Biparjoy is a very severe cyclonic storm that has caused significant impacts in various parts of India, particularly Mumbai and Gujarat. The storm has resulted in heavy rainfall and intense tidal waves, leading to concerns about potential damage and disruptions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Biparjoy is projected to cross the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, along with the adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi and Karachi near Jakhau Port by the evening of June 15. The IMD issued a red alert for these coastal areas on Wednesday, highlighting the potential severity of the cyclone.
The authorities have anticipated that the damages caused by Cyclone Biparjoy will primarily affect infrastructure such as roads, light poles, and kutcha houses, which are made of less sturdy materials. While the cyclone is categorized as a severe cyclonic storm at present, IMD Director Radhe Shyam Sharma mentioned that its movement on Wednesday was mainly in the northeast direction. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Saurashtra, Kutch, and Gujarat on June 15. On June 16, it is predicted to enter Rajasthan’s Kutch region in a depressed form and further weaken.
The impact of Cyclone Biparjoy is evident in various regions, including Valsad, where massive waves have been lashing the seafront. The authorities and local communities are on high alert, taking necessary precautions to mitigate the potential risks associated with the cyclone.
